In 2025, TLSDF (Rakdek Foundation) continued its life-saving work through the Pediatric and Family Cardiac Program (PFCP), supporting underserved patients living with structural heart disease across Northern Thailand. With the generous support of Edwards Lifesciences Foundation<\/a>, PFCP provided access to essential surgeries, mobile heart screenings, and awareness-raising campaigns that reached hundreds of people in remote areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many families, receiving treatment for heart disease is not only a medical challenge but also an economic impossibility. PFCP exists to ensure that poverty and distance do not prevent patients from receiving the care they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supporting Life-Saving Heart Treatment<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the core activities of PFCP is supporting structural heart disease (SHD) patients who require urgent surgery or medical management. In 2025, PFCP supported 25 underserved SHD patients<\/strong>, including 11 male and 14 female patients<\/strong>. Most patients were elderly: 22 of them were aged 50+<\/strong>, reflecting the urgent need for accessible cardiac care among older adults living in vulnerable conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many patients come from rural districts in Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son provinces, often facing significant challenges such as limited access to hospitals, lack of stable income, and existing family debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Story of Survival: \u201cYou gave me a new life.\u201d<\/mark><\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Behind every number, there is a story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One PFCP beneficiary, Mrs. Y.\u00a0 (85)<\/strong>, discovered her condition only two months before surgery, after experiencing severe symptoms such as intense sweating. She underwent a successful heart operation in June 2025 at Nakornping Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Living with her son and daughter, Mrs. Y. family faced serious financial struggles. Her husband passed away six years ago, her son is unable to work due to health problems, and their only stable income was an elderly allowance of 800 baht per month<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After her successful operation, she shared a message to the donor:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDear Edwards Lifesciences Foundation and TLSDF,<\/em>
<\/em> I would like to thank you for supporting my heart operation. You gave me a new life.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her words reflect the heart of PFCP: ensuring that patients are not left alone when medical care becomes unreachable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mobile Heart Screening Days: Reaching Remote Communities<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In addition to surgeries, PFCP focuses on prevention and early detection through Mobile Heart Screening Days<\/strong>, which bring specialist care closer to people living in isolated areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

World Heart Day & Awareness Campaigns<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

PFCP also works to strengthen community awareness and education through campaigns and public events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2025, TLSDF held two major awareness activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Heart Valve Day Campaign (February 2025)<\/mark><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • World Heart Day Event (September 2025)<\/mark><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    During both events, TLSDF staff worked closely with cardiovascular nursing teams at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital to prepare and distribute educational materials. In total, 1,500 brochures<\/strong> about structural heart disease were shared with hospital departments, helping improve patient understanding and encouraging timely treatment-seeking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Each campaign reached around 200 participants<\/strong>, offering both education and support for those seeking medical services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A Best Practice Model of Collaborative Cardiac Care<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    PFCP has developed a strong collaborative model that connects rural communities with specialized hospitals. Through its partnership with Nakornping and Maharaj Hospitals, PFCP ensures a full pathway of care, including screening, referral, logistical support, and financial assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This integrated approach has proven its impact over time: between 2017 and 2025, PFCP supported 250 heart patients<\/strong>, helping them access treatment that would otherwise have been out of reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Looking Forward…<\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    In 2025, PFCP successfully reached its core mission: saving lives through accessible heart treatment, early screening, and health awareness. With continued support, the program will keep expanding its reach to the most underserved communities especially in remote highland and border regions where medical access remains limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
